Today in 7th grade, one of our activities was the question “How many triangles can you make with six lines?” This is “Flying Blind: 2012 edition”–starting the year with a problem that I haven’t explored before and whose answers and extensions I don’t know. Today’s photo shows two of my (new!) students’ results.
Note that the question isn’t “What’s the most triangles you can make with six lines?”, and so I do mean to call these drawings “results”.
Lots of questions came up about interpreting the question–what kinds of lines are “okay” and what constitutes a triangle. I’m looking forward to refining the question–perhaps in multiple ways–next class.
