Day 2: Math Art on a Square Grid

Today was my first middle school Math Art class! Paul had his the period before mine, and he and Anna and I were at all or part of both sessions. It was rad to be in a room with kids so excited to make math art.

We decided to kick off the year on the theme of the square grid and so put together a Google presentation of some examples of this genre. After introductions and flipping through the presentation in class, we all started in on our own drawings, snap cube sculptures, and Geoboard creations. A particularly nice one that a student made is the subject of my Day 2 photo.

  1. Oooooh, I am so excited to have a chance to live your math classes vicariously through these pictures and accounts. I especially love, love grids and grid designs. Your google presentation was so inspiring…so many ways to use a grid. Glad I checked Twitter tonight and found your link. 🙂

    • Hi Malke! I’m so glad you found this and dropped by. We’re also going to be setting up a blog specifically for our middle and high school students to share their mathartwork with each other and the world. We’ll be sure to let you know when it’s set up!
